Problems with your dog not coming when called?

Monday Oct 10 2011

A pretty common issue with dog owners is struggling to get their dog to come when called. Do you have that problem, at least sometimes?

Actually, it's not that difficult to sort out, once you understand what's going on in your dog's head. The real issue is that most people only call their dog when they want it do something THEY want, rather than what the dog wants. For instance, you call your dog because you want to tie it up, put it in the car, lock it inside - in general to stop what it is doing (which might be having fun) and doing something they don't want to do. Pretty soon the dog associates coming to you with a lack of pleasure.
When you realise that, then all you have to do is to get your dog thinking that coming to you is pleasurable. So start calling it for no other reason than to reward it, with a pat, a cuddle or a treat (a few kibbles of Pro Pac makes a great treat).

Do this a few times. It won't take long before your dog gets the message that it's going to get rewarded for coming to you, not just 'punished'.We tried this recently with a dog we were looking after and it worked a 'treat'.
Try it!

Why is Pro Pac Cheaper than Eukanuba/Hills/Nutro, etc?

Sunday Oct 02 2011

A lot of people still don't seem to realize that Pro Pac is a HIGHER QUALITY petfood than Eukanuba, Hills Science, Royal Canin or Pro Plan.

It's not our opinion - it's evident just by comparing the ingredients and is acknowledged by pet nutritionists worldwide.Feeding a better food to your pet means fewer health problems, better skin, muscle tone and joints and greater energy. The food goes a lot further too - you need to feed a lot less because there aren't the fillers bulking up the food. But if it is higher quality, why is it so much cheaper?
Here's a typical price comparison of a 15kg bag of Adult dog formula:

Eukanuba $129.90 (2 Star Rating - DogFoodAdvisor.com)Hills Science Diet $136.00 (2 Star Rating)
Pro Plan $139.90 (2 Star Rating)

Royal Canin $128.95 (3 Star Rating)Pro Pac $112.40 (3.5 Star Rating)Better quality and so much cheaper?
There are a couple of reasons why:
  • You're not paying for TV ads, signs on vet or pet shop walls or other "marketing."Pro Pac has made a deliberate policy of spreading their name worldwide largely by word of mouth, rather than expensive advertising.
It's certainly working because the company is growing by 25% per year, and has done over the last decade.
  • We are the importers and you're buying directly from us. We don't spend a lot on marketing either - because we've also found that word-of-mouth is by far the best form of advertising.
So if you've wondered, these are the reasons why you're stepping up in quality yet down in price with Pro Pac.

Please help us spread the word! If you have any friends with dogs or cats we'd really appreciate you telling them about Pro Pac - and how they can have a healthier pet while actually saving money.

Springtime Problems for Dogs

Monday Sep 26 2011

We commonly get asked the question: "If my dog has skin problems and is scratching a lot, does he have an allergy?"

In fact, scratching, hair loss, licking paws, skin problems and ear infections are all common symptoms of an allergic reaction. The problem is in diagnosing the source of the allergy. There are essentially two sources of the problem:
  1. environmental factors: pollen, insect bites, fleas or mites and even household fabrics
  2. something in the food.
The most common foods that cause allergies are beef, wheat, soy and dairy products and anything artificial such as flavorings or colorings.

Fortunately, NO Pro Pac formulas contain any of these ingredients. And although there are a couple of "sensitive" formulas in the range, the truth is that any Pro Pac formula is more hypo-allergenic than most other "sensitive" formulas by other brands. If you have any allergy symptoms in your dog and you're not feeding it exclusively Pro Pac, look at what else might be in your dogs diet. Even food scraps or the odd other biscuit could well be enough to set off an allergic reaction.
And if you are having any specific issues you are always welcome to email or phone us for advice. We're here to help!

How to Tell if Your Dog is Doing Well on Its Food

Monday Sep 12 2011

Because dogs are "opportunistic" eaters, meaning they will eat practically anything (unlike cats), it can be hard to know how well your dog is doing on a particular food. As the food they eat has more impact than anything else on their health, it's important to know they're doing well before more serious problems start showing up later in their life.

Here are some of the things that are indicators of their health (and how well they are doing on the food you feed them):
  • Weight: Do they look like they are the right weight, being neither under or overweight
  • Coat: Is their coat soft and shiny?
  • Teeth: Are the dog's teeth in good condition, without chips or stains?
  • Stools: Does it produce regular stools that are neither too dry nor too soft?
  • Odour: Does you dog give off any unpleasant odours, either from its coat or either end? (!)
  • Energy: Does your dog have plenty of energy "on demand"?
  • Mobility: Does your dog suffer from any stiffness or joint problems?
If you have any problems in these areas you definitely should check out the food you are feeding as it will almost certainly be playing a major role.

We've had stories of significant health improvements in many dogs since they have been fed Pro Pac. This isn't surprising - Pro Pac works extremely hard to ensure their food has the absolute best ingredients, and in a balanced formulation that address every possible health issue in dogs. That's why Pro Pac is AAFCO certified nutrition, with higher grade ingredients than Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Hills or Pro Plan, yet up to 25% cheaper.
It's no wonder Pro Pac is growing at the rate of 25% per year in 76 countries. The world really is discovering Pro Pac and its significant health benefits.

We're delighted that you use Pro Pac. It is growing very rapidly in New Zealand, largely by word of mouth as more people realize how much better it is and also how much they save by not buying a heavily marketed brand of inferior quality at a higher price.Remember, if you ever have any food or health related issues with your pet you are welcome to give us a call on 0800 364 366. We may be able to help.
Have a great week,

Hi there, they loved it! I am now giving them the biscuits for their daytime feeds and only using wet food in the morning as they are still so young (7weeks today). I am thrilled with the price. I've heard about your cat line as well and am spreading the word.
Thanks for the samples, very welcome!
thanks again,

Jo, Stanmore Bay
